2. Constructional Features
- Stator assembly: Laminated steel core
with three-phase windings to produce a rotating magnetic field.
- Synchronous rotor: Rotor assembly
designed to establish magnetic poles through DC field excitation.
- DC excitation system: Provision for
the specified 110 V DC field supply, subject to the actual machine design
and nameplate.
- Cut-section construction: Selected
portions of the motor housing are opened or removed to demonstrate
internal components.
- Single shaft: Provides the mechanical
output arrangement.
- Solid yoke extension: Incorporates the
specified structural extension.
- Terminal arrangement: Five specified
BTI 15 terminals for instructional connections, subject to the actual
terminal diagram.
- Metal mounting base: Provides a stable
mounting arrangement for laboratory demonstrations.
3. Experiments and Learning Objectives
The AL-E422 is intended to support the
following educational activities:
- Study of synchronous motor
construction and operating principles.
- Identification of stator, rotor, field
winding, and shaft assemblies.
- Understanding the rotating magnetic
field produced by a three-phase stator supply.
- Study of DC excitation and its role in
establishing rotor magnetic poles.
- Understanding the principle of
synchronism between the rotor and stator magnetic field.
- Study of the effect of excitation on
motor power factor, using suitable additional instruments.
- Observation of internal machine
components through the cut-section construction.
- Comparison of synchronous motors with
induction motors.
4. Working Principle
A three-phase AC supply to the stator
produces a rotating magnetic field. DC excitation establishes magnetic poles on
the rotor. When the rotor is brought to synchronous speed and the rotor poles
lock magnetically with the rotating stator field, the machine operates as a
synchronous motor.
The synchronous speed is calculated
using:
Important: The specified speed of 1440
RPM is typical of a four-pole induction motor operating with approximately 4%
slip. A conventional synchronous motor operating under steady-state conditions
runs at synchronous speed. Therefore, the rated speed and machine type should
be verified against the actual nameplate.
5. General Requirements
- Suitable for electrical machines
laboratories, engineering colleges, polytechnics, and technical training
institutions.
- Robust construction suitable for
repeated educational demonstrations.
- Internal components clearly visible
through the cut sections.
- Clearly identifiable stator and rotor
assemblies.
- Provision for the specified DC
excitation connection, subject to manufacturer confirmation.
- Secure mounting on a rigid metal base.
- Clearly identified terminals and suitable
electrical safety provisions.
Technical verification note: The
supplied designations SPDP, 1P23, and 1C01 have been retained or interpreted as
provided. Confirm the exact enclosure, IP protection rating, cooling
classification, excitation voltage, and terminal arrangement with the
manufacturer before including this specification in a formal tender.
